Guns N' Roses front-man Axl Rose blames former bandmates Slash and Duff McKagan as well as former model girlfriend Stephanie Seymour for wrecking his ability as a songwriter.  In an interview with USA Today Axl says those three, "did more damage to my ability as a writer. To those three, it was all crap. It beat me down so much."

Axl singled out lead guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan and their attitudes during the band's infamous Use Your Illusion Tour:

"Slash and Duff said, 'You're an idiot, you're a loser.' I didn't write for years. I felt I was hindered for a very long time. I was also trying to figure out what I wanted to say, when it's right to be venting and when you're digging a bigger hole. Lyrics on Chinese took a long time."

Chinese Democracy was Guns N' Roses 2008 album.  It was released 15 years after their previous album, "The Spaghetti Incident?'.

The Use Your Illusion tour was infamous for Axl's behavior.  He was charged with inciting a riot after jumping into the crowd to confront a fan filming a concert and cutting the show short (which led to the cancellation of two more shows).  He got into a fight with a fan in Philadelphia.  During Metallica's portion of a double-headlining concert, Metallica front-man James Hetfield suffered serious burns in a pyrotechnics accident.  After they were forced to cut their show short, Guns N' Roses took the stage hours late and Axl stormed off the stage after a handful of songs.  That sparked another riot.  All in all, there several examples of Axl arriving late and complaining about various issues.

So, we have no idea why Slash and Duff would be upset at Axl.
