The condition of Bono's eyes is getting worse according to his friend, Julian Lennon.  Julian discussed the U2 front-man health with the Irish Daily Star.  The son of the late Beatle John Lennon says, "“I don’t know the exact issue but the brightness of the sun hurts them and it’s a deteriorating issue.”

Lennon, who is a photographer by trade, recently spent time with U2, who are rehearsing songs for their upcoming album.  He went on to say that Bono's trademark sunglasses are becoming more important.  "It’s part of his image so in some senses, it was lucky, but not really, of course...Maybe it’s part of his process now and without the sunglasses, he can’t be Bono.”

Bono told Rolling Stone in 2005 that his eyes are, "Very sensitive to light...If somebody takes my photograph, I will see the flash for the rest of the day.  My right eye swells up."
