CBS is developing a sitcom with the working title of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Dave Goetsch sold the sitcom to the broadcasting company. Goetsch is a writer/co-executive producer of the current CBS sitcom, The Big Bang Theory.
The premise of the show is based around an 18-year-old who skips out on going to Harvard in order to launch an internet company from his parents' garage. His parents are apparently 90s rock fans.
The title of the show is a direct rip-off of the legendary Nirvana song. We are not legal experts, but we assume the show may need permission to use the name. We do not know what Courtney Love, Frances Bean Cobain, Dave Grohl, or Krist Novoselic think of the issue. But, those are the opinions that will matter. We are pretty sure the guy who wrote the lyrics to the song, the late Kurt Cobain, would not have been a fan of his song becoming a sitcom.
