A new fern discovered by biologists at Duke University will name a newly formed genus (and 19 species within that genus) of ferns after Lady Gaga. Duke professor of biology and director of the school's herbarium Kathleen Pryers says:
“We wanted to name this genus for Lady Gaga because of her fervent defense of equality and individual expression. And as we started to consider it, the ferns themselves gave us more reasons why it was a good choice.”
The fern has a "somewhat fluid definition of gender" and the DNA sequence GAGA was found within the ferns. We have no idea what any of this means. But, congratulations Lady Gaga!
