Billy Idol was born William Michael Albert Broad in 1957 in Middlesex, England.  The name Billy Idol was inspired by a schoolteacher’s description of Broad as “idle”.  After playing with punk bands in his early career, Idol moved to New York in 1981 to pursue a solo career.

He released his self-titled debut album in 1982 and became a part of the M-TV “Second British Invasion”, growing in popularity due mostly to his music videos. He gained a controversial “bad boy” reputation  and survived a serious motorcycle accident in 1990.  He continues to record and tour with guitarist Steve Stevens today.
