Lenny Kravitz will not portray the late soul singer Marvin Gaye in an upcoming movie.  Kravitz had been tapped to play Gaye in a biopic called Sexual Healing.

It is not clear exactly why Kravitz dropped the project, but it should be noted that Marvin Gaye's son, Marvin Gaye III, had asked Kravitz to drop out and even threatened legal action to the film.

According to Deadline, Law & Order actor Jesse L. Martin will now star in the film.  Sexual Healing will focus on Gaye in the early 1980s.  At the time, Gaye left his record label, moved to Europe, and was in the middle of a fierce battle with addiction.
