Melissa Etheridge says she will marry her partner Linda Wallem in California after the United States Supreme Court ruling paved the way for same sex marriage in the state.

In a statement to Reuters Etheridge says:

"I look forward to exercising my American civil liberties and getting fully, completely and legally married this year to my true love of over three years, Linda Wallem...Once again our constitution stands strong.  All men, and women, and everything in between are created equal."

Etheridge came out as gay in 1993 and has been a vocal supporter of gay rights ever since.  The singer-songwriter has released 11 studio albums since 1988.  She gained mainstream popularity in the 1990s thanks to hit songs like Come to My Window, I'm The Only One, and Your Little Secret.

Wallem is also in the entertainment industry.  She's an executive producer on the Showtime TV program, Nurse Jackie.
