Sammy Hagar has made a lot of money in his life.  He sold millions of records as lead singer of Van Halen and as a solo artist, but he actually has made more money outside of music.  Hagar sold eighty percent of his tequila business for$80 million.  He has also profited in other industries.

But, Sammy still loves to play music.  But, he does not need to do it for the money.  In fact, he's fine with playing for free.  In an interview with CNBC the Red Rocker says:

“I like playing music for free…I’m fortunate that I have other ways to make a living. I no longer play music for a living. I pay my band, my crew, everybody else, but I don’t look for it in my income. I don’t have to do it.”

Hagar plays with his backing band The Waboritas and supergroup Chickenfoot(featuring former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppersdrummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Joe Satriani).
