Tom Petty plans on releasing a new album at some point in 2014.  Speaking to Rolling Stone, Petty says he may play some of the new material in concerts this year.  This summer, he will hit the road and play several festivals in addition to multiple dates at small clubs.  Petty explains:

"I'd rather people heard the record before we perform the songs.  But I also like the songs and want to play them. If they're sounding really good and I get the okay from the head office, I'll do it."

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have recorded a dozen songs.  Petty says, "I hear six that I'm sure about."

When Petty hits the road this summer, he will play several nights at New York's Beacon Theatre and at LA's Fonda Theater.  The classic rocker says that fans should expect to hear some deep cuts at those shows, "It's about getting the best out of the band and to show people there are a lot of sides to us, the different kinds of music this band can play."
