Wolfgang Van Halen was taught a lot about music from his famous father, Eddie. In a recent interview with Noisecreep, Wolfgang said that Eddie, "introduced me to AC/DC before I could even talk." But, because of their two lead singers, Wolfgang became a big Blink-182 fan on his own.
Wolfgang played guitar and drums as a child, but eventually landed on the bass. His joke about why might not sit well with fans of Van Halen's original bassist, Michael Anthony:
"I switched to bass because it was the only position open in Van Halen. I didn't really get into the bass until we started messing around in the studio for about a year before the 2007 Van Halen tour. We rehearsed for a long time and at first it was just fun, and then when we got Dave involved, it got really serious."
In addition to play bass with the family band, Wolfgang is also the bassist for Tremonti, which is Creed/Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti's band.
