Listen to Genesis on iHeartRadio

Peter Gabriel says he's glad his former Genesis bandmate Phil Collins is back to writing songs, and is considering touring again.

The rocker tells "Rolling Stone" he believes Collins "got himself into a bit of a hole," and calls it "great news he's coming out of it."

But Peter isn't as ready to support Collins in getting Genesis back together.  While Gabriel says a reunion has "never been ruled out," he doesn't know if or when it'll ever become a top priority for him.

However, he admits that "if you're gonna do it, you gotta do it before you're all dead," and adds that in this way Genesis has been "quite lucky."

All five band members are still living, which Peter knows won't be the case indefinitely.  He says it gives him "a sense of the clock," but that isn't leading to a quick shift in his priorities.
