Miley Cyrus Sheds No Tears With Powerful 'Slide Away' Premiere At 2019 VMAs

2019 MTV Video Music Awards - Roaming Show

Miley Cyrus left her sadness on the stage after performing "Slide Away" for the first time at the 2019 MTV VMAs.

Cyrus delivered nothing short of an electrifying, emotionally-charged debut of her new breakup ballad at the awards show on Monday night (August 26). Under the cloak of a black-and-white setting, the 26-year-old took it all out on the microphone as she belted the lyrics straight from her broken heart while a string orchestra played in the distance. Divesting from her usually-playful performance style, Cyrus needed no props to pull through one of the most powerful presentations of the evening.

The song's lyrics seemed to signal a transcendent period for Cyrus, who lays bare all the familiar pain of true heartbreak and knowing when enough is enough.

Cyrus' latest single was released on August 16, just a week after the musician's breakup with her soon-to-be ex-husband Liam Hemsworth made headlines. As fans know, the longtime couple of 10 years — who married in secret last December — announced their split on August 10.

Since their separation, the Australian actor has moved to file for divorce from the "Malibu" artist, who officially broke her silence on the dissolution of their marriage in a lengthy rant on Twitter.

Cyrus is performing at this year's iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas in September alongside a lineup of superstar artists. Fans across the country can tune in and watch an exclusive live stream of the show via The CW App and CWTV.com. Then, on October 2nd and 3rd, relive all of the epic performances from the weekend during a televised special on The CW Network at 8pm ET/PT. And leading up to the official television special, The CW will also air an hour-long Best Of Special on Sunday, September 29th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
