Hailey Baldwin Asked Her Parents To Stop Her From Marrying Justin Bieber

Premiere Of YouTube Original's "Justin Bieber: Seasons" - Arrivals

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin shocked the world when they announced their engagement after just one month after they rekindled their romance. At just 24 and 21, many people thought they were too young to tie the knot. Shortly after their whirlwind engagement, Justin and Hailey wed at an intimate New York City court house ceremony. Hailey admitted they went through with their legal ceremony over a year before their traditional church wedding in an effort to prove their detractors wrong.

Almost two years and two weddings later, however, Hailey revealed she also felt doubt about accepting Justin's proposal. The pair originally dated in 2016, but called it quits after a brief romance. Since it didn't work out between the first time, Hailey was hesitant to marry Justin after such a short reunion. “He’s the first person I ever had real feelings for. When things went south for a little bit and we went our separate ways, I just knew that no matter what the outcome was going to be, I knew that he was going to be somebody I loved for the rest of my life,” Hailey said in Justin's new YouTube docu-series Seasons.

After Justin proposed back in 2018, Hailey called her parents for guidance and asked them to put the kibosh on the engagement if they had any concerns about it. "This is the time I need you to stop me from doing something crazy if you think this is a bad idea," Hailey asked her parents. Hailey said that she thought her mom and dad would advise her to "relax and take a breath and think about this and see how you feel in like 24 hours or a week."

Her parents, however, had a different perspective on her engagement, telling Hailey: "Honestly, we think that this is meant to be for you and we know that this is what you want, so we trust you." Hailey added that she knew “in my heart, I knew this is what I wanted to do.”

The now 23-year-old model addressed some of the criticism she and Justin have faced since news of their engagement broke, including how young they both were and how quickly it all seemed to happen. "It all happened really fast and kind of all at once," Hailey explained in Seasons. “Him and I have known each other for so long that there was a part of it that didn’t feel scary but it was such a big life decision that it was so much emotion all at one time.”

The 10-part YouTube docuseries, "Justin Bieber: Seasons," is now available to stream on YouTube.
