Biketoberfest 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Charlotte, NC (September 29, 2020) - Sustain Charlotte is excited to announce the return of Biketoberfest in 2020. They are once again encouraging Charlotteans to discover fun and easy ways to get around without driving. For the first time, Sustain Charlotte will provide multiple routes all over the county for a "Choose Your Own Adventure" themed event happening the weekend of October 24-25.

“Given the pandemic, we needed to think creatively about how we could still hold this event but do so safely because we know many people look forward to it each year,” says Shannon Binns, executive director of Sustain Charlotte. “People are hungry for fun things to do with their friends and family outside.”

Participants will be able to choose from a list of fun and safe routes across the county, or they can simply choose their own adventure!

The event will also include a unique Selfie Scavenger Huntfor a chance to win prizes. Sustain Charlotte will provide a list of generic places for participants to find along their chosen route. Participants can take a selfie there and upload it to their participant page to earn points. The top participants will take home prizes donated by local businesses.

“The event will not only be a fun, social, and healthy activity, but riders will also have an opportunity to help support the work Sustain Charlotte does every day to make our city safer for healthy, climate-friendly, and affordable ways to get around: biking, walking, and riding transit,” Binns says.

Sustain Charlotte started this event in 2014 as a fun way to promote biking for transportation to Charlotte-Mecklenburg residents. Not only does bicycling for transportation promote a healthier lifestyle, but it also reduces transportation costs as well as air pollution and carbon emissions.

WHEN: Saturday, October 24 - Sunday, October 25. Whatever time works best for you!

WHY: To have fun getting around the city by bike, and to support Sustain Charlotte as your community advocate for biking in the Charlotte metro area.

TICKETS: Tickets are on sale now for $35. The price includes an official event t-shirt that will be mailed prior to the event as well as a chance to win prizes in a fun scavenger hunt.
