CHARLOTTE, N.C.- A woman was attacked while she was jogging on a Charlotte greenway over the weekend, according to police.
Police said the man sexually assaulted the 21-year-old victim around 5 p.m. Sunday on a trail off David Taylor Drive in University City.
Officers said the attacker tried to drag the woman into the bushes, but she fought back, police said.
The assailant told her to quit fighting back or he would kill her.
They said she used pepper spray to fend the man off and escaped.
"It's really alarming," a jogger said Tuesday. "I thought I lived in a safe area."
The woman had bruises and scratches after the attack.
Police only had a vague description of the suspect.
"I don't typically carry pepper spray on me but, I'll probably have to start," jogger Dominique Sanchez said.
