CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A SWAT situation at an Advance Auto Parts store in west Charlotte came to an end Friday morning after police determined the suspect was no longer inside the building.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police initially responded to a reported armed robbery at the Advance Auto Parts on Freedom Drive around 8 a.m. According to police, officers began implementing de-escalation tactics in an attempt to get the suspect out of the store. A perimeter was set up around the shopping center and SWAT agents were called to the scene.
An officer using a megaphone was overhead telling the suspect, "Take that step. Come to the front door. Do the right thing now."
Around 9:45 a.m., SWAT agents breached the store's front entry. About an hour later, a CMPD officer said the suspect was not inside the building after they went in. The officer said it appears the suspect left the building. CMPD has not released any suspect information at this time.
