Off-Duty Deputy Rescues 11-Year-Old's Drowning Puppy From NC Well

NASH COUNTY. N.C.- An 11-year-old boy and his family are thanking a North Carolina deputy for saving their puppy's life.

Our news partners at WTVDreported that Trey Snow wrote a letter to the Nash County Sheriff's Office detailing the moments an off-duty officer stepped in to rescue his dog from a well.

Snow wrote that he was running down the street in pajamas trying to find his puppy, Riley, when the deputy, whose name he couldn't remember, stopped to help.

When Snow finally found Riley, he said she had fallen through a rotted plank into a 10-feet deep well.

He said she was standing on her hind legs with water up to her neck, jumping and clawing, but his family couldn't reach her. Snow said his dad held the deputy's legs and lowered him into the well, allowing the deputy to pull the puppy to safety.

Riley was rushed to the veterinary hospital where she was treated for exhaustion, head trauma and infection.
