'Game of Thrones' Prequel 'House of the Dragon' Confirmed

LOS ANGELES - Still going through "Game of Thrones" withdrawal since HBO's hit fantasy series ended? Good news: A prequel is on the way.

According to The Associated Press, Casey Bloys, the network's president of programming, revealed at an HBO Max event Tuesday that HBO has ordered 10 episodes of "House of the Dragon," a new series from "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal.

"Based on Martin’s 'Fire & Blood,' the series, which is set 300 years before the events of 'Game of Thrones,' tells the story of House Targaryen," the network's parent company, WarnerMedia, said in a news release.

"House of the Dragon" will feature Condal and Miguel Sapochnik as showrunners; Sapochnik as director; Condal as writer; and Condal, Martin, Sapochnik and Vince Gerardis as executive producers, WarnerMedia said.
