America is full of beloved restaurants that have been serving their communities for decades, and in some cases nearly as long as America has been a country. To take it even further, North Carolina has a rich history, both culturally and in terms of its culinary scene, so it's no surprise that there are plenty of historic establishments that have stood the test of time.
According to a list of the "oldest" restaurants around the country compiled by LoveFood, the "most historic restaurant" in all of North Carolina is Carolina Coffee Shop in Chapel Hill, which has been around for more than a century. Carolina Coffee Shop is located at 138 E. Franklin Street.
Here's what LoveFood had to say about this iconic North Carolina institution:
"The oldest restaurant in the college town of Chapel Hill, Carolina Coffee Shop is a favorite among students or anyone else looking for a tasty breakfast or casual lunch. It's been open since 1922 and remains a vital part of the Chapel Hill community, serving specialties like shrimp and grits, biscuits and gravy, omelets made to order and, of course, cup after cup of hot coffee."
